High attention to the service level
Pietro Fiorentini S.p.A is a leading company, operating on an International level, in designing, manufacturing and selling components, systems and services for the regulation and metering of natural gas with the goal of enabling and increasing its safe usage by distributors and consumers, with continuous improvement.
It can be said that Cybertec and Pietro Fiorentini grew up together; the project started in 1995. At that time Fiorentini was already a big company and therefore at the forefront in terms of innovation of both products and processes, compared to other companies.
In those years and context, a business reorganization was initiated by a leading international consulting firm, these consultants also identified some room for improvements in the finite capacity planning in order to achieve one of the primary business objectives: improvement of the service level.
CyberPlan has been involved in a business reorganization process that highlighted the revision of basic data as the primary criterion. The basic data were present but not much reliable.
Another challenge won was the planning, that has been built around a single tool. The planning of the components and plants departments, that work using different logics (the former with the catalog and the latter with the client / order).
The last and most important thing was to move into a single tool, MRP logics with logics closer to the Lean philosophy, such as the Kanban. The scheduling tool takes into account the kanban constraints and provides information on any out of stock that might be due to an unexpected demand rise.
Planning, first linked solely to people’s goodwill, has been standardized and made more easily manageable; the ability to control the planning improved the throughput time and therefore the service level. The issues are now identified in advance both in terms of missing materials and of production management. Material / missing analysis is done in advance, it also uses sales forecasts and is frequently updated; it resulted in more stable production plans and a further increase in service levels. We have been able to make finite capacity planning of sales order and thus also managing the impacts of the independent demand.
CyberPlan came afterwards a oftware selection that lasted months and that put the three top players of that time. The reasons why we choose CyberPlan are many: from the unique features of the product to the strong abilities of the Cybertec team. The consultants are all very well prepared on both the functionality and the logic typical of the commodity sector.
Talking about CyberPlan we appreciate the configurability of the product on our needs and the high processing speed of a few minutes (What-if analysis that allow different scenarios simulations). In addition to this, we valued the high simplicity and user-friendliness of the functions that facilitate expediting processes and re-scheduling capabilities, two things that keep the plan up to date. We also valued the simple, intuitive and instantaneous visibility given by the full-pegging. This allows to fully understand the consequences of changes in sales, production and purchase, either in terms of detail impacts on the single sales order/on a set of these and/or on all the objects of the production and supply plan.
