The importance of supporting investments in infrastructures with a software for the advanced planning and scheduling

The Company

Founded in 1961 on the initiative of Francesco Giacomini, and now run by his sons Attilio and Michela with over 200 employees, Plastopiave creates plastic containers, screen printing and labeling, offering a 360 ° service for the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, but not only. The company offers a range of over 1.000 products making use of the various polymers and produce them on more than 20.000 square meters dedicated to production, over a total of more than 35.000 squared meters, whilst making use of a cogenerator and a large photovoltaic system.


The Challenge

Plastopiave has always looked to innovation and increase in performance, investing in new plants and new IT infrastructures. These support the former and allow to take the maximum benefit from them. As for production planning, before installing the CyberPlan advanced planning and scheduling software, Plastopiave used a tool that was slow and required paperwork. Plastopiave therefore decided to look for a more advanced and fast solution, which would allow to manage the production and resources available in the best possible way. The software selection made it possible to notice the differences existing between the different APS and highlighted the goodness of CyberPlan.


The solution

The product portfolio includes more than 8,000 items, each of which can be produced in different colors, in addition to this, the sector has increasingly moved towards a just-in-time production, for which the entire production chain has now moved in the direction of production on order. CyberPlan has been fundamental in this step, since it allows us to better manage orders, guaranteeing short and reliable delivery times to customers.

CyberPlan helps communication both on the internal and external sides. If we look inside Plastopiave, in fact, today the sales department can see the production progress and date of fulfillment of a client’s order in full autonomy and without requiring information from the planning colleagues. This avoids potential communication problems and allows both roles to spend more time on high-value activities. CyberPlan can also communicate more effectively with the ownership or other managerial roles, thanks to the use of filters and the easy and quick export of tables.

Finally, CyberPlan also helps the communication to the outside of the company: customers are many and each with their own needs, being equipped with CyberPlan allows to continuously monitor customer orders, in case of any need or variation.



In addition to the aforementioned calculation speed and security in ensuring certain delivery times, CyberPlan allows Plastopiave every day in having visibility on all orders in place, at 360 degrees. Add to this the simulation capacity of CyberPlan, which allows you to evaluate the consequences of any changes to the existing plan, and speed, which allows for example to see the results of these simulations in a few seconds. Another positive thing about CyberPlan is the possibility to have “views” that allow you to analyze useful contents for different reasons, these are then customized according to your needs.
